Respectfully, I would like a bit of clarification on what you mean by “harassment”. Are you referring to people suicide-baiting and sending threatening DMs (which is uncalled for and inappropriate) or people using publicly available information about this candidate’s party affiliation, views, and activity to inform potential voters that her values may not align with their own (a normal and expect part of any democratic process)? If you are positioning the latter as the equivalent of the former, then I am very concerned. It may seem a bit harsh for people to make posts about her Republican party affiliation making her someone that a lot of us would rather not vote for, but considering the current political climate, many of us feel that this is relevant information.
I think that it is also important to note that a registered member of the GOP running for an elected office on the board of a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving transformative works (many of them created by, for, and about queer people) in the midst of a GOP-led crackdown on LGBTQ rights is genuinely terrifying to a healthy chunk of your user base. Even if this candidate has stated that she does not align with her colleagues with regards to these issues, she has not been elected and has no voting record to work from to get a clearer picture of how and how much she dissents. With our rights crumbling around us in real time at the behest of some of her colleagues, we are not comfortable trusting her words if they have not yet been backed up by actions.
